Our Story: Building Sonic Sanctuary
Sonic Sanctuary Recording Studio was founded in 2010 by Ethan Blake, a passionate audio engineer with a deep love for music and a vision to create a world-class recording facility in the heart of Austin's vibrant music scene. Ethan, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin's renowned music program, recognized the need for a studio that not only offered state-of-the-art equipment but also fostered a collaborative and inspiring environment for artists.
Initially, Sonic Sanctuary started as a small project studio in Ethan's garage, equipped with a modest collection of microphones and a second-hand mixing console. However, Ethan's dedication to quality and his commitment to providing personalized service quickly gained him a reputation within the local music community. Word of mouth spread, and soon, artists from various genres were lining up to record at Sonic Sanctuary.
In 2015, fueled by growing demand and a desire to expand its capabilities, Sonic Sanctuary moved to its current location on Rainey Street, a bustling hub for Austin's nightlife and creative scene. The new facility was custom-designed from the ground up, incorporating acoustic treatments, spacious recording rooms, and a comfortable lounge area for artists to relax and collaborate. Ethan invested in top-of-the-line equipment, including a vintage SSL AWS 900+ SE console, a collection of Neumann and AKG microphones, and a wide range of outboard gear.
Over the years, Sonic Sanctuary has had the privilege of working with a diverse array of artists, from established Grammy-winning musicians to emerging indie bands. The studio has become known for its versatility, catering to a wide range of genres, including rock, blues, country, hip-hop, and electronic music. Sonic Sanctuary has also expanded its services to include voiceover recording, podcast production, and sound design for film and video games.
Today, Sonic Sanctuary remains committed to its founding principles: providing exceptional sound quality, fostering a creative and collaborative environment, and delivering personalized service to every client. The studio continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, embracing new technologies and techniques while staying true to its core values.
